Announcing PyOmgLol, an Unofficial Client for omg.lol

Today (17 September 2026) is the second anniversary of my omg.lol membership. To celebrate the occasion, I am happy to announce my new project: PyOmgLol, an unofficial cross-platform client for omg.lol!

I joined omg.lol since the platform's fundraising campaign for St. Jude in 2024, and I have not regretted it. I have been enjoying the various features omg.lol provides, and the omg.lol community is one of my favourite online communities.

(Speaking of omg.lol's fundraising campaign for St. Jude, the annual fundraiser for 2026 is still ongoing at the moment, so if you have the means to donate, your support would be very much appreciated!)

After my study at 42 the computer science school ended due the suspension of the student programme of my local campus in late May, I have been trying to look for a software project to make to put the programming knowledge and skills I gained from my study there to good use. Eventually, after checking out various community tools for omg.lol, I came up the idea of making my own omg.lol client built on top of omglol's API, with Python as the language since I had learned a lot more about Python during my study at 42 the school. Making an omg.lol client meant to be released publicly is also one of my ways to give back to the omg.lol community.

I decided to name my Python client of omg.lol PyOmgLol, which is a combination of Python and omg.lol. Furthermore, I got to put my graphic design skills to use by designing PyOmgLol's logo.

PyOmgLol will be available as a desktop application via both command-line interface (CLI) and graphical user interface (GUI) on platforms that support Python including Windows, macOS and Linux. My client will support various omg.lol features including status updates, picture sharing, creating DNS records for your omg.lol address, and so on. An omg.lol client such as PyOmgLol allows you to use the supported omg.lol features without using a web browser.

I started developing PyOmgLol since late July, and while it is not close to ready for release yet, its development is still ongoing. I have enjoyed working on PyOmgLol and learned a great deal during the process.

While PyOmgLol is not an official omg.lol project, Adam Newbold, creator of omg.lol, has been incredibly supportive of the project. Special shout-out to Adam for his generosity of gifting a dedicated omg.lol address for PyOmgLol: pyomglol.omg.lol. Thank you, Adam!

You can follow updates about PyOmgLol through PyOmgLol's statuslog on status.lol or Mastodon account at @pyomglol@social.lol. Stay tuned!
